What is Early help?

The Manchester City Council Early Help Offer is a service designed to support families who may need additional assistance but do not meet the criteria for social care. It aims to intervene early, providing families with guidance, resources, and support to address challenges before they escalate.

Key Features of Early Help:

1. Support for a Range of Issues: Early Help can assist with a variety of challenges including parenting, housing, mental health, education, and financial difficulties. It's designed to address the root causes of stress and help families navigate these pressures.

2. Tailored to Individual Family Needs: Every family is unique, and Early Help offers a personalized approach. A dedicated Early Help worker collaborates with the family to assess their specific needs and create a plan of action. This could involve access to services such as counseling, parenting programs, or practical support.

3. Voluntary Participation: Engaging with Early Help is voluntary. Families are encouraged to seek support when they feel they need it, with no stigma attached. It’s about offering assistance early on to prevent more serious issues from arising.

4. Multi-Agency Approach: Early Help works alongside a range of professionals, including schools, health services, and housing officers, to ensure a coordinated and holistic support system. This joined-up approach helps to address all aspects of a family’s well-being.

5. Focus on Children and Young People: One of the main goals is to ensure children and young people get the best start in life. This includes promoting school attendance, improving behavior, and supporting children’s emotional and social development.

6. Accessing the Service: Families, schools, or professionals can refer themselves or someone else to Early Help. There is an assessment process to determine the level of support needed, which can then lead to a coordinated support plan.

Overall, the Early Help Offer is about providing proactive, flexible, and accessible support to help families thrive, ensuring that any difficulties do not escalate to crisis levels. It's part of Manchester City Council's commitment to strengthening family resilience and well-being in the community.
